Volume: 6.0 mL of 24 hour Urine specimen

Tube Type: 1 10 mL Urine tube
Collection Info:
20 mL from a 24-hour urine collection. Add 25 mL of 50% acetic acid as preservative at start of collection. Use 15 mL of 50% acetic acid for children <5 years old. This preservative is intended to achieve a pH of between approximately 2.0 and 4.0. The sensitivity of the test is greater on a 24 hour specimen than on random specimens. Send specimen refrigerated (keep specimen cool with frozen coolant April to October, refrigerated coolant November to March).
NOTE:
1. PATIENT'S AGE AND 24-HOUR VOLUME ARE REQUIRED ON REQUEST FORM FOR PROCESSING.
2. Levodopa interferes with the procedure; it should be discontinued at least 2 weeks prior to collection of specimen.
