Collection Info:
1.0 mL of uncentrifuged amniotic fluid. A specimen from the 16 to18 week gestational period of pregnancy is preferred. Amniotic fluid
from the 14 to 21 week gestational period is acceptable. Send specimen refrigerated (keep specimen cool with frozen coolant April thru October, refrigerated coolant November-March).
NOTE:
1. Second Trimester Maternal Screening Alpha-Fetoprotein (AFP)/Quad Screening Patient Information form with gestational age is required.
2. If chromosome studies are also requested, see "Chromosome Analysis, Amniotic Fluid." The specimen for AChE testing,
when requested with chromosome analysis, cannot be frozen.
