SST TUBE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.
Red-top tube or 1 lavender-top (EDTA) tube (minimum 5.0 mL of EDTA whole blood).
Maintain specimen at 37C prior to separation of serum/plasma from red cells. Separate serum from red cells immediately after blood clots, or after 15 min at 37C for EDTA specimens and place into a properly labeled tube. Send both the original specimen tube and the tube containing the separated serum/plasma.
Please send a copy of the physician order with the specimen.
