Collection Info:
Minimum of 50 mL of voided urine (60 mL preferred) from the second clean catch of the day is highly recommended.  Mix voided urine 2:1 (v:v) with PreservCyt preservative.  Refrigerate and ship at temperatureup to 25 C within 24  hours of collection. Shipment on ice is preferred.
SPECIMENS CANNOT BE FROZEN

Methods

Urine is processed to fixed cell pellet within 72 hours of  collection.  FISH pretreatment and processing for UroVysion. Probes specific  for UroVysion: chromosome centromeres 3, 7, 17, and p16 locus specific probe for 9p21 are analyzed.

Clinical Utilities

Detection of aneuploidy of chromosomes 3,7, and 17, and loss of 9p21 locus in person with hematuria suspected of having bladder
cancer, to aid in initial diagnosis of bladder cancer, and subsequent monitoring of tumor recurrence in patients previously diagnosed with bladder cancer.

Reference Range

An interpretive report will be provided. Normal reference range would be less than 4 cells with gains of two or more of chromosomes 3,7 and 17, and /or less than 12 cells with homozygous deletion of 9p21 locus. This test is approved by the FDA.
