Volume:
Temperature: Ambient
Tube Type: Paraffin-embedded Tissue
Collection Info:
Specimen must be fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue block, the volume of formalin should be 10 times the  volume of the specimen.  Optimum fixation time 12 to 24 hrs but not to exceed 48 hrs or be less than 6 hrs. Maintain the specimen at room temperature.  Do not freeze.

Methods

Fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) pretreatment of 5 µm cut paraffin embedded tissue slide. Processing of tissue and analysis of 60 for each FISH probe site. Probes specific for chromosome centromeres X, Y, 1 and 17 are utilized for the detection of diploid and triploid signal patterns.

Clinical Utilities

Testing is utilized for the distinction of molar and partial molar pregnancies when pathology results are inconclusive.
