Volume: plasma from 2 light-blue tops
Temperature: Frozen
Tube Type: Light-Blue Top (Citrate)
Collection Info:
Spin specimen with a Sure-Sep II or spin down, remove plasma, and spin plasma again. Place plasma in plastic vial and freeze immediately.
A. Sure Sep II or double centrifuging specmens are critical for accurate results as platelet contamination may cause spurious  results.
B. Patient should not be receiving heparin or coumadin.

Methods

Photo optical clot detection.
Patient's plasma is initially screened with a PT, INR, PTT, and thrombin time to see what mixing studies are necessary. When indicated, a pathologist interpretative comment will be attached.

Clinical Utilities

Detection of specific inhibitors directed to a single coagulation factor and non-specific inhibitors such as lupus anticoagulants.
